The Science Directorate[1] oversees scientific aspects of the Earth Federation.
The Directorate is tasked with various scientific investigations, often in concert with the Defense Directorate. During the pilot illness crisis that grips the Defense Directorate's pilot corps in 2491 CE, Dr. Elias Huer tasks Dr. Mallory and his ambuquad analyst Carl with determining the source of the illness and, following that, how to cure its affects. They determine that Vistula is the source of the contamination, and that it is deliberately done via food disc shipments sent to New Chicago (BR25: "Planet of the Slave Girls").
Later, the Directorate is tasked with various investigations, including the probe from Pendar that lands on Earth in 2492 CE (BR25: "Planet of the Slave Girls").
