The helmet is a protective headwear worn by humanoids, even in the 25th century.
Earth Defense Directorate
Pilots and soldiers of the Earth Defense Directorate wear helmets during various operations.
Pilot Helmet
Thunderfighter pilots wear a white, open-faced helmet featuring a pair of opposing red "lightning bolts" (with black and yellow-gold pin striping outlines) on the top, flanking the thin centered "mohawk" going from front to back of the helmet. The sides of the helmet feature two-tone red and black decorative flourishes with black, squat "mandibles" that hover over the wearer's cheekbones. A microphone suspended by a rigid wire booms out from the short mandible from either the helmet's left or right cheek cover[1], suggesting that the helmet includes a communications suite.
The helmet is held in place by padding inside of the helmet, with "doughnut" style ear-pads providing a pressure fit to the wearer in the absence of a chinstrap.
Personalized Variant
A rare variant helmet is intermittently worn by both Col. Wilma Deering and Capt. William "Buck" Rogers, with their abbreviated rank and last name printed on the wearer's right and left sides (BR25: Film, "Awakening"). Otherwise, EDD pilot helmets do not have any identifying marks on their helmets.
Notes
- There were two versions of this helmet made: a "hero" prop and a stunt prop. The stunt version is essentially a shell, and can be identified by the white, unpadded interior when it is either carried or displayed, whereas hero shells featured dark padding with "ear muff" covers.
